LANDR Mobile App
A second chance at making a first impression
Since 2014, LANDR has been a pioneer in AI audio mastering. Although our first attempt at launching a mobile app in 2016 didn’t go as planned, by late 2021, we knew it was time for another go. With LANDR's feature set having expanded significantly, we saw a golden opportunity to diversify and create a new revenue stream. Musicians frequently struggle with collaboration, so we made it our mission to address this pain point with the second iteration of the LANDR mobile app. We knew a collaboration-focused mobile app was the way to go, but we had to approach it strategically.

This was a project done in parallel with other initiatives, so we had to make sure the squad was lean and highly effective. We created a small team including a project manager, an iOS/Android developer, and a designer.
With no historical data or user feedback, we had to improvise and base our decisions on collective experience and gut feeling. It was risky, but we were able to tap into desktop app user feedback and data to outline the scope of what we needed to do to get to market fast and pack in the maximum value.

The team was small, so we had a fast iteration pace where we could test designs quickly. This proved to be essential for spotting problems early on and making adjustments. Once the team was confident enough with the solutions, we had the chance to validate the product in a closed Beta release.
Once the testing was done and all bugs were squashed, off to the app stores. It turns out that there are a lot of checkboxes to be checked before having an app live on the app stores. After some minor tweaks and copy revisions, we finally made it to the app stores!

Expanding the LANDR platform to mobile devices proved to be the best way to help our current user base and generate a considerable amount of new sign-ups. This opened the way to new opportunities to grow LANDR.
Since the launch, a year ago, we managed to get over 115K app downloads across iOS and Android with super positive reviews on both app stores (4.79 stars overall). We recently introduced in-app purchases, opening a new revenue stream for the company.
